True, it’s not yet Thanksgiving — but I just saw the first official sign of Christmas. TNT is advertising the first showing of A Christmas Story.

I can’t help it. I liked the Discovery Channel documentary-drama Supervolcano, about a massive explosion of the volcano underneath Yellowstone Park. The science is plausible enough, but the acting is so tremendously bad that it made me laugh for most of the movie.
My favorite scene is when one of the scientists is recording a video message and theoretically has inhaled lots of volcanic ash, which is very, very bad stuff. Every 30 seconds or so, he’ll look dramatically into the camera and cough for emphasis. (“Got it? Ash is bad.”) I can’t describe it well enough to do it justice. It’s B movie acting that would make Ed Wood drool.
Anyway, I’m tickled to see that there’s a new docu-drama about weather modification called Superstorm coming up, which has a giant storm hitting New York. (Haven’t we done that before?) Same producers, so I am looking forward to the same spurious casting decisions. But yeah, I’ll watch it.

There’s been a fair bit of hubbub about the release of season one of the Animaniacs on DVD, but I wanted to add my fair share. Chopper loves this show more than I do, but frankly, I love it and think it’s worth it just for repeats of Mime Time and – most hilariously – subtitles on the Godpigeon. Oh, My, God.

Chopper and I have started listening to the official podcast for Lost on our commute … I am thoroughly enjoying some interviews with the cast but the highlights for me are the often hilarious interchanges between producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof. I have a mental image of these two kicking back with a couple of beers and messing with our minds during the podcast as much as during that … amazing … show … !!!
Seriously, it was worth it just to hear Josh Holloway explain about crushing the tree frog and the hate mail he got over that.

Anybody who has ever seen the show knows that they must have existed – the Discovrty Channel has posted a group of Mythbusters outtakes not seen on the show.
If you like the show, it’s worth taking 20 minutes to watch the six videos posted, including a sea otter interrupting the Ping-Pong ball rescue experiment. Plus, you get to see an exploding cement mixer.
