Say hi to Junebug!

We have a name: Junebug.  We went to the vet this morning and she got a clean bill of health.  HOORAY!  The rescues all got a dose of ivermectin last Monday as a treatment for any mites or worms, and she’ll get the second round in about three weeks as a precaution.  My main concern was giardia, since a couple of the hedgehogs in other groups had tested positive, but she shows no signs and tested negative.

We’re teaching her that it’s okay to eat in the open, and what a food dish is.  Right now, she’s very secretive about her eating, which is totally understandable.  She loves roasted mealworms so I’m bribing her to eat them both while she’s uncovered and out of a dish.  She more readily eats kibble that’s buried in her blankets so we’ll have to gradually work with her.  For now, I’m just glad she’s eating!

She continues to be very mellow and amenable to handling.  We watched two movies tonight and she spent the whole time snuggled up in a fleece blanket with one of us while Paisley marauded around in her exercise ball.  Paisley is a bit miffed to have the living room cordoned off with a rolled-up towel, but she spends most of her time in the other rooms anyway.

I’ve seen a lot of discussion on some photography sites about doing a photo a day for an entire year, and I have to say, the idea is daunting. I’ve done several photo-a-day months, and I’ve enjoyed them enormously, but the pressure to just take something already is sometimes overwhelming. I’ve committed to a lighter version of the same concept and will be posting a photo a week for 2010. No particular subjects, and a great number of them will probably be cell phone camera photos since that’s often what I have handy, but at the end of it, I hope to have something that shows a taste of what 2010 was like.

For our first weekly photo, I’ll start with (naturally) Paisley. It’s been ridiculously cold, and while she has been quite comfortable through the entire business, she has taken to burrowing quite extensively in her blankets. Today, I found her with her fabric hat tipped over so she was in it like a little teacup, with her blankets all pulled down around her. Quite sensible, actually.
