There are lots of theories behind the rather unusual practice of self-annointing in hedgehogs. Some thing it’s to help them spread a distinctive scent on their bodies for scent camouflaging; others think it is to spread potentially toxic or irritating substances on their quills. I really don’t have a guess, but it is hysterically funny to watch. We’ve had hedgehogs annoint on everything from dirty clothes to Altoids to other hedgehogs to … well, you name it. Paisley LOVES Chopper’s hair, and sometimes mine. She doesn’t bite it – just sort of masticates thoughtfully and then contorts into amazing positions to spread nice foam on herself.
Last night, Paisley got some quality time with Chopper’s hair.
