Success

I’ve gotten most of what I want with the site back up and running — yay, me.  Here, have a photo.

Site update

Since I’m reworking the photo gallery using Flickr, I thought I might as well take the time to update to version 2.6 of WordPress.  It went much more smoothly than I feared, although it did eat all of the categories for previous posts … sigh.

I’ll be (inevitably) tweaking the site over the next few days and getting everything settled.

After a lot of consideration, I’ve created a Flickr account and will be adding new photos to my photostream there.

There are a lot of advantages: lovely RSS feeds, social networking, and the need to avoid messing with the Gallery install I have here.  For all practical purposes, you won’t see too much happening here.  I’m still going to add thumbnails of images and all the items on my photostream will be public (with some rare exceptions, I’d imagine).  Anyway, I’m busily uploading and tagging.

I’m aware that the Photos section is currently throwing a spectacular error; I think it’s something to do with the integration of WordPress, which powers the blog, and Gallery2, which powers the photo gallery.  I’m not sure why it might be, as I haven’t upgraded or changed anything, but I’ll tinker with it when I have some time and hopefully get it cooperating again fairly soon.

I have invested today in playing with WordPress and Gallery and getting the new version of the web site online. I’ve settled everything with the Photo Gallery as well, so check out some new (and old) photos online. I’ll be adding more frequently.

Speaking of photos, I think this one of Tenzing fairly well sums up his current condition. While he’s not as spry as he has been, he’s pretty chill. We’re feeding him baby food out of a syringe twice a night, and he’s just thrilled to lay on his back and enjoy being bottle fed. Silly little monster.

Dexter is also doing very well. He’s settled into the household well, enjoying time on his wheel and generally being the sneakiest little hedgehog I have ever seen. He sleeps in a fabric hat under a pigloo, and he is very good at not being seen out of said pigloo. I can drop a few treats in a dish, leave the room, and come back to find them mysteriously gone, but no sign of the hedgehog who ate them (presumably). For the curious, no, the boys do not get along. Tenzing is determined to … well … woo Dexter and Dexter wisely is having none of it. He’ll do a header right off the sofa to get away from his dirty minded big brother.
