A photo a day - February

Yep. I’m doing it again. In October, I documented every day with a photo of some kind. I said I’d do it again at some point in the future, and “some point in the future” became February 2008 at the gentle persuasion of my coworker Jennifer. There’s four of us from work who are participating. As before, I think I’ll probably get caught off guard and end up taking photos of random stuff on some days, but I do love the simple fact that this forces me to pick up my camera.

I have some new equipment this time around, too, which is always fun: a 50mm f/1.8 lens (a Christmas present from Dad) and a Gorillapod SLR flexible tripod (courtesy of a ThinkGeek gift certificate from my brother, Devin). The Gorillapod came today and is even amusing just to twist around when it’s not attached to a camera. It’s inevitable that I’ll end up taking a picture of one of the cameras mounted in some improbable place using it.

As before, I’ll be using two cameras: my Nikon D70 DSLR and my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P10. I’ve got three lenses for the Nikon: the aforementioned 50mm, an 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5, and a 55-200mm f/4-5.6. I’ll post a snippet each day with photo(s) and the whole shebang will be in this album in our photo gallery. If you’re curious about details of each photo, you can see EXIF information if you choose Detail mode when viewing the photos. Sorry, I haven’t figured out a way to turn this on my default.

To start the month off, I bribed a somewhat willing subject (Dexter the hedgehog) to pose for the camera with treats. This is his “did you really just wake me up for this?” face. I tend to provoke this expression a lot. Nikon D70, ISO 400, f4.5, 1/60, 70 mm (with the 18-70mm lens).

I’m also terribly behind on posting photos from our visit to my parents’ house for the holidays, so I’ll play a bit of catch-up over the next few days as well.
